The glass is molded into different shapes and the layers of glass and colors are fused at 1600 degree, assuring that the colors will never fade or change.
Westerwald, best known for its cobalt blue and grey country look. Pennsylvania artist Phil Schaltenbrand, revived this technique and artform. While looking to the past for inspiration, Westerwald also looked to the future. They were the first company to offer personalized stoneware, the first to revive authentic cobalt-brush decoration, and the first to sign, stamp, and date each piece.
Collections by Marty is owned by Scottdale resident Marty Savanick, who has always loved antiques, collectibles, and making people happy. Her first store was opened in 1989 in downtown Scottdale. Following the success of the first Collections by Marty, she opened a second, larger store along Route 31 in Donegal, one well positioned to take advantage of tourist traffic through the Laurel Highlands and to Seven Springs. As her businesses grew, Marty took time to fulfill yet another dream, that of opening a Tea Room. When the old Provident Book Store in Scottdale became available, Marty knew the time for her Tea Room had come, and Miss Martha’s Tea Room & Gifts became a reality. Today, the entire family is involved in running Marty’s ventures, including her husband Reuben and sons Benjamin, Nathan, and Adam.
The unique shops and hard working entrepreneurs of Westmoreland County are what help to make our community the envy of the Laurel Highlands region. You will enjoy your visit to Collections by Marty and you are sure to return again and again for the best in gifts, collectibles, and home dcor.
